Watch Tame Impala Transform A Nelly Furtado Classic Into A Hazy Dream For ‘BBC Radio 1’
We're going to need a covers album ASAP.
Tame Impala popped up on BBC Radio 1 this Wednesday for a spaced-out cover of Nelly Furtado’s 2006 hit ‘Say It Right’.
Backed by bandmates Jay Watson and Dominic Simper, Kevin Parker transforms the R&B hit into a synth- and trill-filled dream for Future Sounds with Annie Mac, straight from his home studio in Perth.
Despite the year that is and cancelled tours, Tame Impala have kept busy through 2020. After releasing third album The Slow Rush in March, Parker and co. took on Lady Gaga’s ‘Perfect Illusion’ (which Parker has a writing credit on); released remixes by Blood Orange, 070 Shake and Four Tet; appeared on NPR’s ‘Tiny Desk Concert’; and popped up on a song by The Streets, ‘Call My Phone Thinking I’m Doing Nothing Better’. They also recently took to an empty Perth stadium to perform two tracks that feature on Fifa 21‘s soundtrack.
While on BBC Radio 1, the trio also performed ‘Is It True’ from Tame Impala’s 2020 album, The Slow Rush.
Watch and listen to both BBC performances below, as well as the original Furtado track.
