Taika Waititi Is Going To Direct ‘Thor 4’, And We Demand More Korg
You don’t need to be afraid... unless you’re made of scissors.
In what had to be one of the easiest decisions the studio has ever made, Marvel has signed Taika Waititi to write and director the follow-up to his brilliant Thor: Ragnarok.
Waititi was largely responsible for breathing new life into the Thor franchise, with his offbeat comedic sensibilities proving the perfect match for the Lord of Thunder (sorry, God of Thunder). According to The Hollywood Reporter, Waititi has signed on to direct the film ahead of his planned live-action adaptation of Akira, which has been delayed over “script development concerns”. His latest project, Jojo Rabbit, a Nazi-era comedy in which he stars as a little boy’s imaginary version of Adolf Hitler, is set to hit cinemas later this year.
It’ll be interesting to see where Waititi takes Thor, who had a bit of a rough time in Avengers: Endgame and was last seen joining the ranks of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Guardians Volume 3 has had a troubled production history, with Marvel firing and then rehiring James Gunn to helm the franchise. Whether Thor will be on board for their next big screen outing before heading off on his own again remains to be seen.
Either way, Waititi will have plenty of fan-favourite characters to jam in, including Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster, and revolutionary rock monster Korg, played by the director himself. Or honestly, just give them all their own spinoffs. I’d sure as hell watch them.
