Barely two weeks after it abruptly announced it was shutting its doors, Sydney’s beloved World Bar has announced it’s coming back — as the ‘Cali Club’.

Sydney hospitality duo Dane Gorrel and Matt Weir (who you might know from Club 77 and S.A.S.H.) have officially taken over the venue on Bayswater Road and will keep it alive as a nightclub. They’ll even be keeping on World Bar’s famed Wednesday club night, The Wall.

“We need to preserve our nightclub institutions. They have a tremendous impact on Sydney’s culture, and once they go, it’s incredibly hard for them to return,” says Gorrel. “We really want to help keep the candle burning for our city’s night life and continue the venue’s legacy.”

Sydney party crews iEntertainment and Poster Child will also be hosting club nights at the venue — specific details have yet to be announced.

“World Bar means a tremendous deal to a lot of people, so we like to think of Cali Club as just the next chapter in the venue’s colourful history. Cali Club is fun, young and all about having a great time, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back next week”.

Cali Club officially opens Wednesday, December 12. From then on it’ll be open Thursday through Saturday, 3pm to 4am.
