The 2022 Emmy nominations dropped overnight, including two for Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney, and she’s reacted accordingly.

Sweeney earned not one but two Emmy nominations — one for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Euphoria) and the other for Supporting Actress in a Limited Series (The White Lotus). To celebrate, she treated her fans to footage of herself giving her mum a call, who immediately answers ‘Cong-ratu-lations!’

And while you may get the sense her mother then drops off the face of the earth, Sydney had actually just taken her off speakerphone.

“There weren’t many words,” Sweeney clarified to the New York Times about the conversation. “It was more of crying and saying how proud she was.”

The first-time Emmy nominee also shared a couple of snaps from the two shows —  Cassie “Do I Look Like I’m In Oklahoma?” Howard from Euphoria, and her more comic turn as Olivia Mossbacher in The White Lotus.

“I was definitely in shock, because I was not expecting to get nominated, especially not for two awards,” Sweeney told the New York Times in a phone interview after her nomination. “I appreciate the characters that I get to play, so the fact that people have been touched by my character — that’s what means so much to me. It’s an amazing feeling, and I’m very appreciative.”

Responding to audience criticism that her Euphoria character was overly sexualised last season, she said: “I hope people can look deeper inside of Cassie and see the struggles and the trauma that she has gone through, and why she is who she is”.

“Because there’s a reason behind all of it. Does she want to put herself out there all the time? No. She does it because that’s what she thinks other people want from her, and that’s the only way that she’s going to be able to get what she wants from people.”

“I think that shows how women feel and how they’re treated today. I hope that it raises awareness for others, and they’re more aware of how we’re being perceived, how young girls are being raised.”

This year’s Emmy nominations also include a whopping 25 nominations for Succession, 20 nominations for The White Lotus, 16 nominations for HBO’s Euphoria, and 14 nominations for Squid Game. Sweeney’s Euphoria co-star Zendaya also makes history as the youngest ever person to be nominated in a production category.

Our beloved Love On The Spectrum US also bagged three Emmy nominations, in the categories of Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program; Outstanding Casting; and Outstanding Picture Editing.
