Sydney Airport Queues Were Out The Door This Morning Amid Fog And Technical Difficulties
Sydney Airport was recently crowned ninth most delayed in the world.
Sydney Airport has again faced major delays on Monday morning, this time, due to heavy fog and technical issues that forced the line for security out the door and down the road.
Thousands of passengers were forced to wait outside Sydney Airport’s T2 domestic terminal on Monday morning, with the airport blaming a technical issue that forced the closure of one of the security lanes.
“We’re so sorry for the inconvenience. A technical issue has meant we’re temporarily operating one less security lane than normal in T2. We are working with airlines to get everyone on their way, thank you for your patience,” Sydney Airport told customers on Twitter.
Passengers took to social media to share photos of the extreme queueing.

However, passengers have reported that the situation inside the terminal is akin to a ghost town.

To make matters worse, thick fog across Sydney caused further delays at other terminals, with Qantas — which departs from T3 — warning customers to check the airline’s app for up to date flight information.

The fog cleared shortly after 9am on Monday, but caused delays of up to 40 minutes on flights after the weather cleared. Passengers on Qantas flights were not impacted by the queueing issues at T2.
This is the second time in as many weeks that the airport has made headlines for significant delays, with large queues for security also being observed last week.

The news comes just days after Sydney’s Kingsford Smith Airport was listed as the ninth most delayed airport in the world with 34.2 percent of flights being delayed, according to a recent report by CNN. Toronto’s Pearson International Airport topped the list with a delay percentage of 52.5 percent.
