This Surfers Paradise Church Just Erected A Really Awkward Sign
"Forgiveness is swallowing when you'd rather spit."
Well, one Queensland church has erected a sign sure to inspire the public to get on their knees.
The Surfers Paradise Anglican Church of the Holy Spirit is currently advising passers-by that “forgiveness is swallowing when you’d rather spit”, and the message is pretty prominently displayed. I mean, church signs are often controversial, but cop a load of this one:
That picture was shared on Instagram this morning by the member for Surfers Paradise, John-Paul Langbroek, who wondered whether the unfortunate phrasing might have been intended as a reference to dental visits.
That would have been an easy out for the church, if a slightly weird one, but a spokeperson told the Courier Mail it wasn’t actually the case.
“You don’t open your mouth and yell at somebody, you close your mouth and swallow,” they said. “If you want to say something, keep your mouth closed for a bit.”
“Swallow it, don’t spit it out.” You know, the obvious explanation.
It’s not even the first weird message from the church in question, either. Take a look at this splash of wisdom from 2016:
Who knows what that means? The Lord acts in mysterious ways.
