If you’re reading this, then you’ve finished watching Stranger Things season 3 — and I just wanna tell you, EVERYTHING IS GONNA BE OK. We’ll get through this together.

*Obviously, spoilers, are you mad?*

The latest season of Netflix’s nostalgic sci-fi thriller is, to put it bluntly, extremely fucking good. While season 2 had some good moments, it didn’t really hold a candle to the powerhouse first season. But Season 3 is both a return to form, AND a meaningful extension of the story and the characters.

Hooray!

But, every good drama requires a sacrifice, and the end of Stranger Things season 3 was extraordinarily dramatic, and upsettingly sad.

Billy, the flayed villain of this season manages to gain enough autonomy to sacrifice himself to save Eleven. That was sad!

Eleven loses her powers — that’s sad!

But, most of all, Sheriff Hopper fucking dies in a big ol’ Russian science explosion. That’s exceptionally sad!

Now, clearly he’s not dead — at the very end, post-credits in a very MCU style, we cut to a Russian prison, where some poor schmuck is getting fed to a Demodog. They refer, quickly, to “the American” in another cell.

I mean, that’s clearly Hopper.

But — even if that’s true, that doesn’t actually cut down on the sheer devastation in watching Eleven and Joyce mourn his sacrifice. It doesn’t make it any less goddamn sad when Joyce, Will, Jonathan and ELEVEN pack up their house, say farewell to the gang and move away from Hawkins (which, is so fucking fair).

So, naturally, everyone is absolutely sobbing about the end of Stranger Things, and also extremely looking forward to season 4, where we get to discover whether or not “the American” is actually Hopper or not.

Imagine if it isn’t, that would be SO CRUEL.

Stranger Things season 3 is currently streaming on Netflix.
