The ‘Stock Market BF And Astrology GF’ Meme Is Delightfully Taking The Piss Out Of Finance Bros

"Bunch of dudes on Reddit joined together to raise GameStop's stock price 150% just cuz and u want me to believe the stock market isn't just straight men's astrology?"

If the whole “Reddit taking Wall Street down with GameStop stock” thing from last week taught us anything, it’s that a lot of us have no idea how stocks even work.

And let’s be honest, if it weren’t for Redditors banding together for the sole purpose of fucking over billionaires and hedge funds, a lot of us wouldn’t have cared. (You can blame the education system hell-bent on teaching us algebra, but not real-world economics for that.)

I mean, considering the biggest meme around the whole thing was basically no one knowing what the hell was going on, it was clear a lot of us were lost — except, of course, for finance bros.

But what is a finance bro without his artsy girlfriend, who he can excitedly explain the stock market to while she feigns interest and understanding? Well, this is exactly how the “stock market bf and astrology gf” meme was born.

In response to the GameStop stock price surge caused by r/WallStreetBets, @digitalworm tweeted “stock market son or astrology daughter” pointing out you were likely one of the two extremes, which actually made a lot of sense.

Just like how astrology is all pretty much make believe, Reddit’s ability to casually raise GameStop’s stock price proved that the stock market is also kinda… bogus. So while pretty far removed from each other, astrology and the stock market aren’t actually that different when you really think about it.

But from here the “stock market bf and astrology gf” meme snowballed from siblings to partners, with @plutonicmoon sharing that they needed to find themselves a relationship where their boyfriend explains Wall Street, and they return the favour by making sense of astrology.

Then, just like with the “X gf, X bf combo undefeated” meme that circulated late last year, people begun to share photos of what these astrology girlfriends and stock boyfriends often look like with examples from pop culture.

Picture Elon Musk explaining the economy to Grimes, for example, except with even nerdier men and even brighter hair colours.

But because we love equality in this house, the meme wasn’t just reserved for heterosexual relationships, either.

Quickly variations of the meme using same-sex pairings started to circulate too, with NBC even getting involved with their own Seth Meyers and Stefon ‘Weekend Update’ edition.

But, honestly? After managing to figure this whole Wall Street and GameStop thing out ourselves, turns out us astrology hoes have finally surpassed the need for a stock market boyfriend at all.

We are the stock market boyfriend now. And deep down, maybe we have always been our own stock market boyfriend. Inspiring.
