It’s been a long while since we’ve seen Steve Carell in a TV comedy. But Space Force, the new show from the creators of The Office, is set to change all of that.

In the new sitcom, produced by Netflix, Carrell plays General Mark R. Naird. Naird is a man whose life is rapidly falling apart: his daughter is struggling at school, his blood pressure is spiking, and he’s been tasked with creating the Sixth Branch of the US armed forces, the newly-minted Space Force.

Along the way, Naird is both helped and hindered by a rogue’s gallery of scientists, army generals and weirdos. There’s John Malkovich as sour-faced astrophysicist Dr. Adrian Mallory, Ben Schwartz as the Secretary of the Air Force, and rising star of the democratic party Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as herself.

Fascinatingly, the trailer doesn’t give much away in terms of the actual plot — it’s mostly just Carell swearing, losing his shit, and trying to calm himself down with a whispered rendition of ‘Kokomo’ by The Beach Boys.

But, unusually for shows in the modern age, the thing also looks simply gorgeous, all handsome, rich colour schemes.

Basically, we’re extremely excited.

All 10 episodes of Space Force are set to drop at the end of this month, on May 29.
