Stephen Fry Just Married Elliott Spencer In The Most Stephen Fry Way Imaginable
His witness was a mini-Oscar Wilde.
It’s been less than two weeks since we found out that walking encyclopaedia and the Most Dapper Gent Alive Stephen Fry was engaged to wed his partner Elliott Spencer. The world was predictably enthralled by the news with many scrutinising the age gap between the two — Fry is 57 and Spencer is 27 — and the remainder just commiserating over the fact that Stephen Fry was officially off the market.
Now, in supreme Stephen Fry style, the couple have wed in a private and no-nonsense ceremony in a Norfolk marriage registry. Fry wore a pastel rainbow tie and a loved up grin, then later tweeted a photo captioned with something painfully eloquent about the whole thing because of course he did.
Gosh. @ElliottGSpencer and I go into a room as two people, sign a book and leave as one. Amazing. pic.twitter.com/bPDQD5WQoB

Further to that, the pair both wore green carnations pinned to their lapels as a symbol of solidarity with Oscar Wilde and his early followers. While we don’t entirely know why the flower was championed by the Irish writer, it’s since been adopted as a makeshift symbol of homosexuality and aestheticism.
The link between Stephen Fry and Wilde is most commonly made because the actor played him in the 1997 film of the same name, but I’m not entirely convinced he’s not a reincarnated form of the writer himself.
As if to completely confirm these suspicions, Fry also brought a small stuffed version of his previous corporeal form to oversee the ceremony.
Oh and @ElliottGSpencer and I had our vows witnessed by a mini Oscar Wilde. Because one should. #greencarnations pic.twitter.com/0b9nh48te0

After the engagement announcement, Fry was harangued by the press for days both online and at his home and stated he had previously wanted a private ceremony, so we best leave it at that.
He was however super appreciative of his fans’ congratulatory messages, so you should send him a little bit of love over Twitter now.
Bloody hell it's happened! @ElliottGSpencer has made an honest man of m'col. Love and happiness to all!!
