Stephen Colbert Invited Anita Sarkeesian On ‘The Colbert Report’ And They Destroyed Gamergate Together

By now you’re probably grossly aware of #GamerGate, the organised online harassment of women thinly disguised as a defence of gaming ethics.

Originally confined to the dankest corners of Twitter, it’s gotten to the point where mainstream outlets like the New York Times and the Washington Post are covering it because the harassment experienced by female gamers and gaming figures online has gotten too large to ignore. Recently feminist games critic Anita Sarkeesian was forced to cancel a guest lecture at Utah State University after the event was threatened with a mass shooting.

Sarkeesian was invited to be a guest on The Colbert Report a couple of nights ago, and Colbert left no-one in any doubt about where he stands on GamerGate and feminism in general.

Sarkeesian got to reach a huge audience, and Colbert used his influence to champion feminism and women’s right to safety and respect online. Good work all round.
