The giant rubber duck’s reign over Sydney Harbour is officially over because a new comically large icon is here to take the crown: The murderous doll from Squid Game.

Just in time for Halloween, Netflix has plopped a three-tonne, 4.5 metre-tall recreation of the animated doll in The Rocks.

Operating just how she did during the Red Light, Green Light game in the smash-hit Korean drama — minus the whole murder thing, of course — the Squid Game doll has a rotating head, glowing red eyes, and will be in Sydney until November 1.

This isn’t the first time that the Red Light, Green Light doll — who is apparently named “Chantal”, according to a Vulture “interview” with the robot — has popped up in a random place.

A replica of the red-eyed robot that was set up to monitor jaywalking outside of a shopping centre in the Philippines went viral when the series was first released. But the actual doll used in Squid Game is a real figure that lives in the horse carriage village of Chungcheongbok-do, a rural area a few hours from Seoul.

Working just how the replica doll in the Phillippines does, Sydneysiders can play their own game of Red Light, Green Light with the animatronic figure or just stop by to take some pics with the very tall icon.

However, there are some rules you need to follow or you’ll be non-violently eliminated from the competition aka asked to leave.

Anyone visiting the pop-up must check-in using the QR code and present proof of vaccination. Social distancing rules also apply with a one-person per two square metres rule in place at all times.

You also can’t run, which is actually a pretty helpful rule to follow if Player 324’s strategy in the actual games was anything to go by.
