Please Enjoy This Hilariously Fake Splendour In The Grass Line-Up “Leak”
Points for trying?
Every July, Splendour in the Grass bring some of music’s biggest names to Byron Bay. And every March, dickheads with Photoshop waste a lot of time making fake Splendour posters and trying to convince everyone the line-up has “leaked”.
Folks, it’s that time of year once again.
Music Junkee received a poster in a private message from one of our readers last week, who claimed it had been leaked from “inside the North Byron Parklands” — which we we guess means it had been stapled to a fence post in the paddock.
The design was believable, but on closer inspection it became apparent that this poster was wildly, ludicrously, outrageously fake. See below:
We’ll give them some points: the headlining acts in the top two lines are (kind of) in the ball park. It’s just the rest of the line-up that’s an absolute mess.
For instance, there’s no way that acts like Thundamentals, Winston Surfshirt, Methyl Ethel and Mallrat would be billed above internationals like SZA, Khalid, and Years & Years. A number of other big overseas acts are curiously squished down the bottom as well, including R&B icon Miguel, and English singer-songwriter James Bay.
And, despite a significant amount of Googling, we cannot find any evidence that a band called ‘Holthouse Flowers’ exists — but according to this poster they’re more popular than Camp Cope and DZ Deathrays.
You’ll also notice there’s a band on there called ‘Greensky Bluegrass’, which our research tells us is a “five-piece American bluegrass band founded in Kalamazoo, Michigan”. It’s a genre which isn’t usually in Splendour’s wheelhouse, but perhaps they’re expanding their musical horizons this year?
There are a few telltale Fake Poster signs away from the artists, like the strangely written “09am” in the line about ticket details. Dunno about you, but we’ve never seen 9am written as “09am” before.
The poster also misspells Banoffee, which is just plain rude. All up, we’re scoring this fake poster a solid 3/10.
The real Splendour line-up is set to be revealed sometime month or early next month. A number of artists have been touted as potential headliners, including Kendrick Lamar, Skrillex, Arctic Monkeys, and Vampire Weekend.
