The New ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Trailer Is Filled With Very Familiar Faces
Ready for some old-fashioned nostalgia? 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' has it in droves.
For months now, rumours have swirled around Spider-Man: No Way Home, the latest Marvel blockbuster and a turning point for the franchise’s cinematic universe.
Mostly, such whispers have been about returning cast members, with everyone from Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker to Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin promised to make an appearance. And now, with the release of the film’s second trailer, at least some of those stories can be put to bed — by the looks of things, No Way Home will be heavy on old foes and friends alike.
Just for starters, the trailer features an extensive appearance from Alfred Molina’s Doctor Otto Octavius, AKA Doc Ock. Early on in the trailer, we see him realise that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is not the web-slinger that he recognises from his own timeline. From there, Octavius appears to forge a somewhat truce with Holland — there are glimpses of the pair trading banter, implying that the two will join forces against a myriad of rogues, chief among them Dafoe’s Green Goblin.
Yep, the vicious, flying sociopath is back in a big way. He gets his own evil monologue in the trailer, a reckoning aimed at Spider-Man and his tenuously constructed double life.
And that’s not even to mention Jamie Foxx’s Electro, glimpsed in the trailer shooting bolts of pure energy, or the familiar face of Thomas Haden Church’s Sandman.
What the trailer doesn’t feature is the much-rumoured return of Maguire and Andrew Garfield, who each played the web-head in their own iterations of the franchise. Whether or not they’ll turn up has been left deliberately cryptic — the trailer ends with Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbath) promising that something is emerging from the multi-verse into Holland’s world. Whether that’s the two heroes remains to be seen. One thing is for sure: that old rumour mill will be working overtime between now and the film’s release, this coming December 16.
