Smash Mouth Has Released A Cover Of ‘Under Pressure’, Making You Miss David Bowie Even More
Somebody should've told them the world was gonna roll them.
It’s been a hard decade or so for Smash Mouth since everyone decided to repress the fact ska pop was a thing and secretly shaved off their pencil beards. Since first rising to popularity with hits like ‘Walkin’ On The Sun’, ‘Why Can’t We Be Friends’ and ‘All Star’ in the late-’90s and soundtracking every single American teen comedy in existence, the silk shirt and sunglass enthusiasts have been seen less and less over the years.
They hit it big soundtracking Shrek in 2001. They swiftly fell out of the mainstream. They released four more albums you haven’t heard of. Now this is the most recent entry on their Wikipedia page:
Last year the band were pelted with chunks of bread while performing at a food festival in Colorado, when singer Steve Harwell started swearing at the crowd and threatening to fight them. After Harwell was restrained by security, the band started playing the opening chords to ‘All Star’ and everyone got on side to enthusiastically sing along. Everyone except Harwell that is, who eventually came around to deliver his most famous lyrics through clenched teeth.
Now they’ve followed up that great success with this: a cover of the iconic ‘Under Pressure’ in tribute to David Bowie who co-wrote and first performed the song with Freddie Mercury of Queen.
It’s not going over so well.

In fairness, this was always going to be a tough act to follow:
