"Me trying to make being like Cassie my only personality trait for like six straight years."

First we were reminiscing about Kath and Kim, then Twilight, and now all anyone’s talking about on TikTok is Skins.

Skins is, without a doubt, one of the top five teen drama series of all time. Yep, Skins. That British teen drama from 2007 everyone was obsessed with. Portraying stories of drug use, eating disorders, mental illness, bullying and even death, Skins was a show with an air of believability to it.

While extreme in it’s portrayal of events, Skins had a raw authenticity about it. It was dirty and imperfect when compared to the glitz and glam of similar teen dramas like The OC and Gossip Girl. But this is why Skins was so popular with teens  — it showed a glimpse of what growing up in England was actually like for the middle class.

The intro song for the iconic series is an instant reminder of all our favourite characters, like TV’s resident misunderstood bad girl Effy Stonem, or soft-spoken sweetheart Cassie Ainsworth.

For everyone on TikTok, however, ‘Skins Theme’ by Segal specifically reminded them of their fascination with wanting to be the characters.

So many people remembered how they’d try to be Cassie by copying her iconic Cassie-isms like “oh wow” and “lovely”.

And heaps of people looked back on the times they tried to emulate Effy’s grungy look and “don’t give a fuck” attitude.

Especially after everyone at school watched Skins, and started wishing for a “girl like Effy”.

This obviously made it hard to decide whether you wanted to be sweet Cas or sour Ef most days.

But the safe option was always to just embrace your true self and be Sid.

Or Pandora, if you were lucky enough to look the part.

Regardless of who you wanted to be, what’s important is remembering that Skins walked so that Euphoria could run.
