Put Out Your Cheesy Toasts: Everyone’s Mourning The End Of Sizzler In Australia
The fast food staple will be closing its doors by mid-November.
Sizzler, that den of easy pleasures, heavy carbs and sticky floors is sadly closing its doors.
The news broke this morning, accompanied by a slew of mournful memories shared across social media. Turns out that the restaurant chain simply couldn’t survive the onslaught of the coronavirus pandemic, with lower customer turn-out doing irreparable damage to the franchise’s profits. By November 15, every outlet in Australia will have shut its doors.
That’s a genuine shame for a number reasons, most importantly of all because of the job losses that such a closure will mean — The Sydney Morning Herald reckons it could spell the end of employment for 600 franchise workers.
Online, people from all walks of life have been sharing their formative memories at the fast-food staple, proving that it was a strangely ubiquitous pleasure for so many of us.

Surprised there were 9 Sizzlers left, and they will now be immortalised as The Sizzler 9

I am 100% breaking my FODMAP diet for one last Sizzler meal. I'll be SO SICK afterwards but SO HAPPY.

What even ARE trips to the Sunny Coast without a pilgrimage to the Maroochydore Sizzler?

Vale Sizzler. You served us well. I once organised a work Christmas party at a Sizzler, which was sneered at in a few media columns, but joke was on them because we had the best time ever for the bargain price of $29.95 a head (drinks extra)

Sizzler in Morley (and the other 8 Sizzlers in Australia) is closing.
One of my sisters was one of the original Sizzler Morley staff members circa 1992. 3000 people had applied for 200 jobs *in person*.
Vale, cheese toast.

Of course, particularly sad is the memorials shared by Sizzler neophytes, who will never get to indulge in the pleasures of cheesy bread or garlic prawn butter.
I have never been to sizzler and now I never will.
