Bizarre Ways My Sims Have Died (And How I Tried To Save Them)
They never see it coming.
PLAY WITH LIFE. ONLY IN 'THE SIMS 4'
There are two types of people who play The Sims: Those interested in building the best fantasy life for their Sim to live out into old age, and then those who enjoyed torturing their tiny creations in the most twisted ways.
After all, playing The Sims is all about creating and controlling the fate of the characters we design – from jobs, to friends, to homes, to relationships, and, of course, in death, too.
But even though it was fun to watch your character squirm when you decided it was their time to go, all the effort put into making their life great meant that you didn’t always want to actually see them die – especially when it was for reasons out of your control.
So here are all the bizarre ways my Sims died, and what I did to try to save them:
#1 Drowning because they didn’t know how to get out of a pool without a ladder
If you’ve ever played The Sims, you’d know that the most amusing way to kill a Sim was by forcing them to go for a dip in their beautifully designed pool, then deleting their only way out.
As a nine-year-old, watching a Sim frantically swim around as their energy levels depleted was thrilling entertainment. But as an adult, this thrill wears off when you start to remember all the time and effort you put into building your Sim a life that’s objectively better than your own.
When this guilt sets in, and you realise what you’re doing, the only real way to save your poor Sim is to try and re-install the pool ladder to hopefully get them out in time. Plus, these days the old ladder trick doesn’t even work as Sims learn that they are able to just hop up on the side of the pool – but that’s nothing a few tall walls around the pool perimeter can’t fix.

#2 Getting electrocuted while trying to repair a broken TV
Nothing sucks more than when you’re actually trying to keep your character alive, and they end up dying just because they’re unlucky and don’t want to call a maintenance man.
As it turns out, Sims can actually die while fixing random electronics around the house if their mechanical skills aren’t high enough. While death via electrocution isn’t common, the less skilled you are, the more likely it is to happen – especially if your Sim is standing in a puddle of water while doing the repairs.
If you’re lucky, an electric shock won’t kill your Sim, and a quick shower will fix the singed hair and clean off the soot all over their body. But if you’re unlucky, your only option is to plead with the Grim Reaper and beg him to bring your Sim back to life.
#3 Catching on fire while trying to make a simple toastie
Having low-level cooking skills but still loving to eat is something that we can all relate to. But for most of us, this lack of skill in the kitchen doesn’t usually result in a fire, and in turn, death.
However, in The Sims, something as small as a whipping up some scrambled eggs can spell the end for your hungry Sim. Whether it’s from low-level cooking skills or cheap stove tops, most Sims go into panic-mode when a fire starts up, which makes them, and the fire, way harder to control.
The only real way to prevent your Sim from burning alive while cooking a meal is to install fire alarms in the kitchen and purchase some fire extinguishers before you even attempt to cook in there. Otherwise, you just have to hope that your Sim really knows how to keep calm in high-pressure situations.

#4 Literally starving themselves to death
We throw the phrase “I’m dying of hunger” around a lot in real life, but in The Sims, starvation is a very common way that Sims can die.
If the hunger bar isn’t topped up in 48 hours, a Sim can just drop dead. But in order to get a Sim to this point, their access to food needs to be totally cut off, which is usually done by shoving them into a room with no doors for a couple of hours.
However, sometimes Sims can choose to starve themselves, too. The only solution in these cases is to meet the needs of your Sim through things like ensuring they have a place to sit and eat, and by making sure access to the fridge isn’t blocked by furniture.
But if that doesn’t work? Simply let them starve for being ungrateful.
#5 And, best of all, WooHoo-ing themselves to death in old age
Sometimes the only way to play The Sims is by actually letting your characters reach old age after living rich, fulfilling lives. But an even better way to go than just expiring due to old age, is to make your elderly Sims WooHoo to the point of death.
With weaker health, older Sims easily get dangerously tired and overexerted, and a couple rounds of back-to-back WooHoo seems to be the perfect way to summon the Grim Reaper for them.
What a beautiful way to go, with absolutely no saving needed.
