How To Get A Ticket To Shane Warne’s Memorial At The MCG
Tickets are available from today.
Tickets to Victoria’s state funeral for the late cricket legend Shane Warne are available from today.
Warne tragically passed away of a suspected heart attack in Thailand at age 52 earlier this month, leaving behind three children — Brooke, Jackson and Summer.
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced the details for his state memorial — which will take place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground — in a statement on Tuesday.
“We’ve got some details locked in for Warnie’s memorial at the MCG,” Andrews tweeted.
The memorial will take place at the MCG from 7pm on March 30. Gates to the venue will open at 5:30pm, with all guests to be seated by 6:45pm for the service, which will run for approximately two hours.
Tickets to the memorial are free and can be obtained via Ticketek from 3pm on March 22.
“Mr Warne didn’t just inspire a cricketing generation – he defined it. Born for the big occasion, he gave us irreplaceable MCG memories: the Ashes hat trick, his 700th wicket and calming Bay 13 in his trackies. Mr Warne’s performance on the pitch drew us to the game that he cared so deeply for,” a statement from the Victorian Government reads.
“The State Memorial Service will be an opportunity for Victorians to pay tribute to Mr Warne’s contribution to his sport, to our state and the country.”
Guests are required to be fully vaccinated and must check in upon arrival at the MCG.
If you miss out on a ticket, the event will also be livestreamed on the Victorian Government website. More information about the livestream will be available here closer to the event date.
The state funeral comes after Warne’s loved ones farewelled the cricketing legend in a private ceremony at his beloved St Kilda Football Club on Sunday.
The Melbourne Cricket Ground’s Great Southern Stand will also be renamed in Warne’s honour.
