Shane Warne’s Daughter Calls Out “Disrespectful” Channel 9 Biopic
“Do any of you have any respect for Dad? Or his family?"
Shane Warne’s family have slammed Channel 9 after it was revealed the network is producing an unauthorised biopic on the late cricketer’s life.
The beloved cricketer tragically died of a heart attack back in March at age 52, and will now be the subject of a new film — announced just six months after his passing.
Warne’s eldest daughter Brooke, 24, took to Instagram to slam Channel 9 for the biopic, calling it “disrespectful”.
“Do any of you have any respect for Dad? Or his family? Who did so much for Channel 9 and now you want to dramatise his life and our families (sic) life 6 months after he passed away? You are beyond disrespectful,” Brooke said on Instagram.
The biopic, which will be a two-part movie, has reportedly been in the works for months and is slated for release in 2023. It was reportedly in pre-production within three weeks of Warne’s passing.
Warne’s daughter’s criticism echoes similar comments made by his manager, James Erskine.
“He’s only been dead for a couple of months and for them to turn this around and think about doing some sensational thing, well they should be ashamed of themselves,” Erskine told The Herald Sun back in June.
“I will be writing to Peter Costello because he is their chairman and saying, please explain.”
“Why would Nine even go there? It’s a disgrace and I will certainly be making my voice heard.”
It has been reported that Warne himself was opposed to a dramatisation of his life — a suggestion that was first proposed in 2017. He did, however, participate in a documentary, released on Amazon before his untimely passing.
Prior to his death, Warne worked as a commentator for Channel 9 for years before the broadcasting rights were purchased by Channel 7 and Foxtel. Junkee understands the Warne family was not approached by Channel 9 in regards to the biopic.
