Shaggy And Sean Paul To Headline Australia’s First Ever One Love Festival
Mr. Boombastic is heading our way.
Australia loves reggae. Our pubs and dancehalls are filled with reggae tribute acts and original artists, reggae dance classes are all the rage — hell, we even got Shaggy, Mr. Bombastic himself, to number two in the charts way back in 2001.
To that end, it was a bit of a no-brainer that a massive reggae festival was eventually going to make its way down to our shores; not so much a question of ‘if’ but ‘when’. Well, guess what? The day has finally come: One Love, a massive festival of reggae dance and culture, is heading to Australia in early 2020.
One Love Festival has a long and storied history. A staple of Tauranga, New Zealand, the celebration has completely sold out its last four annual events, making it something of a hot ticket.
It’s not hard to see why. The 2020 iteration of the event has an extraordinary lineup, topped by Shaggy himself, along with Jamaican dancehall legend Sean Paul and classic act Toots and the Maytals.
“Australia, it’s been far too long since I’ve had the chance to perform in your wonderful country,” said Paul in a press release. “I can’t think of a better reason to get back down under than to perform on the Gold Coast with a line-up stacked with amazing artists.”
‘Amazing’ is the right word, too. Rounding out the lineup is 1814, Third World, Lion Rezz, and PAUA, not to mention a bevy of talented DJs.
The event will go down on Saturday February 1, at Broadwater Parklands in the Gold Coast. You have been warned though: given that this is the first time that the event has left its New Zealand home, you can be sure that those tickets will go fast. If your appetite has already been whet, time to jump straight on it.
Tickets go on sale Wednesday September 11. Get on it.
