Some of these are very contentious, ok?

It’s been four years since Scrabble added any words to the official Merriam-Webster Scrabble dictionary, but today, they’ve given logophiles 300 new words to play with. This is a big deal.

If your reaction to this is a subdued ‘Okay’, then you should reconsider, because you can now play the long-contentious ‘Ok’ in Scrabble, it’s clear that these new words are game-changers.

“Anytime a two-letter word is added to the game, it definitely changes the strategy and the dynamics of playing,” competitive Scrabble player Stefan Fatsis told the New York Times. “So ‘ok’ is a huge addition because it will be the first two-letter work that ends in a k.”

Other easy additions include the two-letter ‘Ew’, and the three-letter ‘Zen’ and ‘Sho’, which will all completely open up the board next time you’re playing. Whoa!

There’s a lot of buzz-worthy additions too. You can now play ‘bitcoin’, ‘listicle’, ‘sheeple’, ’emoji’, ‘facepalm’, ‘puggle’, ‘twerk’ and ‘bestie’, because Scrabble is a cool, hip game, okay? Oops, we mean ‘ok’, ok?

Plus, if you really need to establish yourself as a connoisseur of 2015 food trends, you can now play ‘Macaron’, ‘Bibimbap’, ‘Arancini’ and ‘Sriracha’. Not ‘ew’ at all.

But you’re really here to find out what the new big-scorers are, right? ‘Qapik’, a monetary unit in Azerbaijan, is worth remembering because it’s a rare feat: a word beginning with ‘Q’ that isn’t followed by a ‘U’. But it’s ‘Bizjet’ — a small plane for business — that carries the big points. As AP points out, it could be worth 120 points (!!), if you played it as the board’s first move, and made it into a plural with an ‘S’.

That’s quite a lead: your competitors might even exclaim ‘Yowza’, which is also a new word. The full list of new words isn’t available online just yet, but the online dictionary is updated.

Oh, and next time you’re experiencing a Scrabble-induced tantrum, remember that there’s one new legal word that says it all without the board-flip: ‘Beatdown’.
