LGBTIQ Activist Georgie Stone Blasts Scott Morrison For Hypocrisy Over Transgender Issues
"It's ironic that his government are committed to eradicating mental illness and yet they perpetuate those same mindsets and ideals that are the reason that the [suicide] statistics are so horrible," said Stone.
Scott Morrison has spent his time as Prime Minister trying very hard to assure the general public of his credentials when it comes to the mental health epidemic sweeping the country.
This story contains discussion of suicide.
In fact, in interviews, Morrison has taken an unusually bold stance on the issue for an elected official. According to the stories he tells the media, he wants to not only reduce Australia’s high suicide rate, but to cut it completely to zero.
“‘Suicide takes far too many Australians, devastating families and local communities,” Morrison told the press in July this year. “One life lost to suicide is one too many.”
However, already those promises have been revealed to be so much hot air.
After all, Morrison might say he wants to confront mental health issues, but he has continued to denigrate the Australians most vulnerable — namely, transgender and gender non-conforming Australians.
@ScottMorrisonMP says he wants to tackle suicide in Australia. We can’t do this without a national LGBTIQA+ suicide strategy. Happy to meet to discuss Prime Minister. RT if you agree. Call me Scott. https://t.co/ZxiJW3nS1M

The Prime Minister, whose extremist faith is well-known, has continually attacked the LGBTQI community. His “hateful” tweet about “gender whisperers” in schools was met with widespread condemnation, and his petty criticism of gender-neutral toilet signs resulted in the signs being taken down from a government building.
Now, that hypocrisy is being called out by teen LGBTIQ activist Georgie Stone.
Stone, who has been freshly announced as the ambassador for Headspace, Australia’s key mental health service for the youth, called out Morrison for his history of demonising the transgender community.
“It’s ironic that his government are committed to eradicating mental illness and yet they perpetuate those same mindsets and ideals that are the reason that the [suicide] statistics are so horrible,” Stone said, as reported by The Sydney Morning Herald.
“If they actually want to do what they’re setting out to do, they need to look at themselves and their own attitudes and see what the message is that they are promoting and the effects that’s having.”
In response, Morrison managed only a mangled, inane statement that hits all of his usual talking points — i.e., a coded dog whistle to the right-leaning boomers that make up his base.
“The tragedy of youth suicide is all too common in Australia, particularly amongst younger Australians working through their identity and the pressures of identity politics.”
The “pressures of identity politics”, hey Scott? Wonder whatever he could mean by that.
