As the Prime Minister Scott Morrison tries to steer the country through a bungled vaccine rollout that is contributing to not only to a third rolling Sydney lockdown, but news that Melbourne is also about to enter a snap lockdown, he has finally addressed the mystery we have all been waiting on.

No, it’s not why he didn’t just sign up to heaps more Pfizer earlier on, but the rumour about whether he really did shit himself in Engadine Maccas in 1997.

This morning, on The Kyle and Jackie O show, Morrison asked if he could clarify one thing before the chat ended. And it was that longstanding rumour that stems all the way back to last millennia, in 1997. In case you’ve been living under a rock, social media, especially Twitter, has had a longstanding rumour that Morrison once shat his pants at a local McDonald’s after his allegedly beloved Sharks lost the 1997 Super League grand final.

“It is the biggest urban myth ever,” the Prime Minister clarified on air. “It is complete and utter rubbish.”

“I found the whole thing incredibly amusing, I always joke about it … it is absolute and total rubbish.”

The rumour is, of course, complete nonsense, sparked years ago by a single joke tweet. But that never stopped it from spreading like wildfire to all corners of the internet. Where did this rumour even start? You ask. We have hiphop artist Joyride to thank.

But now it has been clarified. And now the nation must grapple with this new truth.

Alas, convos in the drive-through line will never be the same.
