“Suck On That”: Please Enjoy Sam Kerr Shutting Down Critics Following The Matildas’ Win
"I love these girls, they're something else."

The Matildas pulled off a miraculous feat last night: after a dispiriting loss at the World Cup earlier this week, they returned from a 2-0 deficit to beat Brazil 3-2. As captain Sam Kerr responded immediately after the game: suck on that.
And yeah: suck on that. It’s a perfect response to the media who doubted the Matildas after their unexpected loss to Italy.
“I’m so proud of the girls. We knew we were in it at half time,” Kerr said in an interview after the victory. “There were a lot of critics talking about us, but we’re back, so suck on that one!”
“It’s just outside noise. We don’t listen to the haters. Look at that performance — we came back from the deep, and guys, I love these girls, they’re something else.”

It’s little wonder Kerr’s stoked — Australia and Brazil have a long and fierce rivalry in women’s football. Accordingly, the Matildas’ Twitter account has also been gently stirring the pot following the win. “There’s a lot less Brazilians in our mentions now…” the account tweeted this morning, inspiring a fair few Brazilians to tweet responses about shoving kangaroos where the sun don’t shine.

Anyway, if you’re not supporting the Matildas yet, it’s time to get on board. Their next World Cup game is against Jamaica next Wednesday, and we can’t wait.
