Australian football legend and Matildas captain Sam Kerr knocked a pitch invader on his ass during Chelsea’s Champions League game against Juventus on Thursday morning, once again proving why she is one of the country’s greatest athletes.

In the 87th minute of the clash, a pitch invader interrupted the game, running on to take a selfie with Chelsea player Magdalena Eriksson. However, he got more than he bargained for when he was unceremoniously hip and shouldered onto his ass by Kerr.

Unfortunately, the moment wasn’t captured during the official broadcast, but was immortalised in a series of images that have instantly gone viral online.

Thankfully, one eagle-eyed fan has uploaded footage of the incident to Twitter and honestly, it deserves an Oscar.

Sadly, instead of being congratulated for her iconic performance, Kerr was slapped with a yellow card because — apparently — you can’t drop a pitch invader during a Champions League match, which is news to me.

While the actual incident didn’t make it into the official broadcast, the aftermath — including Kerr being carded — did.

Naturally, Chelsea fans were livid over the fact that Kerr was carded for what was clearly a public service.

Fans were quick to draw comparisons between Kerr’s defence and that time Aussie cricketer Andrew Symonds famously dropped a pitch invader at the Gabba.

I mean, what can I say? Australians simply love to watch athletes putting pitch invaders on their ass.

Honestly, the whole ordeal just further reiterates the point that women’s football is a kick-ass sport (literally) and it deserves the same coverage and publicity that we award the men’s equivalent.

Sam Kerr is a national treasure and I simply cannot think of an athlete more worthy of representing Australia on the world stage — nothing but respect for my Matildas captain.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison is yet to comment on the situation, or confirm which bank note we will be immortalising this moment on, but I can only assume it will be the $100.
