Ah, the film we didn’t know we wanted. Ryan Reynolds is set to produce (and possibly even star in) an R-rated reboot of Home Alone suitably titled Stoned Alone.

Deadline reports that the film, managed by Fox and linked with writing talents Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider, will be about a 20-something pothead who misses a flight overseas. Bummed out, he chills in his empty house and gets high.

You can guess what happens next.

As with the classic originals, thieves try to enter the protagonist’s house and rob it. This time, instead of a young kid using his ingenuity to stop the robbers, we’ll have deadbeat young adult who’s off his face giving it a crack.

The film will be directed by Augustine Frizzell, known for Never Goin’ Back and Euphoria.

Reynolds is best know for his role as Deadpool, and previous castings in The Proposal and BuriedReviews for his latest R-rated performance in Deadpool 2 were full of praise.

The original Home Alone film was released in 1990, where it hugely exceeded expectations in cinemas. It became the highest grossing live action comedy film in the United States, until it was pipped two decades later by The Hangover.

The sensation generated a sequel, and two later films that were released under the same name with a different cast.

There’s a now-infamous scene in Home Alone 2 that features current US president Donald Trump. No news yet as to whether Trump will reprise his role in Stoned Alone.
