Ryan Adams Sledged Father John Misty On Twitter As “The Most Self-Important Asshole On Earth”

Ryan Adams has hit out at Father John Misty, sledging him on social media as “the most self-important asshole on earth”.

The singer-songwriter, who isn’t exactly known for his tact, got stuck into Misty after learning that he would be appearing on Austin City Limits later in the month.

“It’s so wonderful you booked the most self-important asshole on earth to ‘break it all down for us’ while he does his Nick Cave impression,” Ryan tweeted on Saturday morning.

Adams went on to say that Misty – who he dubbed “Sir Fuckhead” – sounded like “shit Elton John but if he was just sitting in a corner staring at his hands on LSD”.

It’s not clear what Adams has against FJM, although it might have something to do with Misty’s tongue-in-cheek cover of Adam’s Taylor Swift covers. Misty subsequently told Rolling Stone he was “taking [Adams] to task for what I saw as a grotesque stunt”.

Adams has since deleted the tweets and apologised via Instagram. “I’m human and I have bad days,” he wrote. “It happens. I apologize. ‬ I took a deep breath and remembered I can always do better‬… I am very tired but it’s no excuse to be cruel to others, even if they have shown me that same meanness.”

Misty, for his part, responded to the incident in a short Facebook video in which he joked that Adams had called him “the most important asshole on Earth”.
