Keep Those Engines Running: ‘RuPaul’s Celebrity Drag Race’ Is Coming Next Year
By our count, seven separate 'Drag Race' series will air in 2020.
Next year, we will have seven separate seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race, with RuPaul today announcing a celebrity addition of the show that will premiere next year.
RuPaul’s Celebrity Drag Race joins a plethora of Drag Race spin-offs, including All Stars, several seasons-in Thailand, the currently airing UK series, and the pending Canada and Australia.
With All Stars 5 confirmed for 2020, that means there will be seven seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race next year — as Junkee’s resident re-capper, I want to cry. Judging by the reaction online, the sentiment’s shared.

Not too many details are known about the Celebrity edition, though it’ll work a little differently from the usual show. As first reported by Vanity Fair, each episode will feature three celebrity contestants, who will be made-over and aided by Drag Race royalty. There will be 12 celebrities in all competing for prize money, which goes to a charity of their choice.
Names currently on-board include Alyssa Edwards, Asia O’Hara, Bob the Drag Queen, Kim Chi, Monét X Change, Monique Heart, Nina West, Trinity the Tuck, Trixie Mattel, and Vanessa Vanjie Mateo.
It all sounds similar to the short-lived spin-off Drag U, which saw queens instill cis women with drag confidence. We’re sure watching straight male celebrities get dolled up will be similarly inspiring.
RuPaul’s Celebrity Drag Race will launch in 2020 on VH1 in the US. No news yet on the Australian release, but it’s a good guess that it’ll stream on Stan here, given the service’s backlog of the show.
