Rolling Stone Gave Their Cover To Philip Seymour Hoffman Instead Of Drake. Drake Is Pretty Pissed Off About That.
Oh Drake. Why won't you let us love you.
Yeah, it’s pretty much as bad as it sounds.
Drake lashed out at Rolling Stone overnight, for publishing a quote in which he dissed a few “questionable bars” on Kanye West’s Yeezus. To add insult to injury, the magazine also pulled him from prime position on its cover — replacing him with some dead guy instead.
“I never commented on Yeezus for my interview portion of Rolling Stone,” he began, in a Tweet that’s since been deleted. (Pro tip: if you’re talking to press, it’s all the “interview portion”. Just don’t say things you’ll regret ever, basically.) “They also took my cover from me last minute and ran the issue,” he continued.
The magazine had indeed replaced the Drake cover, following the shocking and untimely death of Philip Seymour Hoffman. Drake followed up with a poorly-planned after-thought, before quitting from interviews all-together: “I’m disgusted with that,” he said in a second, now-deleted tweet. “RIP to Philip Seymour Hoffman. All respect due. But the press is evil.”
Yet to be published online in full, the Rolling Stone interview also includes an excellent part in which Drake addresses Best-Rap-Albumgate: the self-serving apology Macklemore texted to Kendrick Lamar and then uploaded to Instagram, after winning one of many Grammys. ”I was like, ‘You won. Why are you posting your text message? Just chill,’” Drake said. ”‘Take your W, and if you feel you didn’t deserve it, go get better — make better music…’ It felt cheap. It didn’t feel genuine.”
Unfortunately, that right there is the last time we get a good quote out of Drake. Thanks to Rolling Stone, he’s done.
I’m done doing interviews for magazines. I just want to give my music to the people. That’s the only way my message gets across accurately.
