Channel 9 personality Richard Wilkins has issued a public apology to Dua Lipa, and he has done it with his butt.

If you’re not across the drama: yesterday on Today, Wilkins showed a clip of the UK popstar performing her single ‘IDGAF‘ on US talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live, which had aired the night before.

This, he posited, was stone cold evidence that the singer was not actually resting after undergoing dental surgery last week — the reason she’d given for cancelling a string of Australian shows with Bruno Mars — but had instead fled to the States to do some promo.

Unfortunately for Dickie, he didn’t realise that the Kimmel performance had actually been taped back in February — long before Lipa landed in Australia for her tour with Bruno Mars and underwent surgery.

Dua quickly dragged him on Twitter, telling the host that he should have “done proper research instead of talking out of your ass”. So this morning, Dickie fronted up to Today to apologise.

It started off well enough, with the reporter admitting he’d gotten it all wrong.

“When we saw her on Jimmy Kimmel Live we assumed she’d headed to the States,” he explained. “However as she pointed out yesterday she’s been on bed rest here in Australia, and the Kimmel performance was actually recorded last month.”

This is his ‘Sorry’ face.

But then things started to go slightly off the rails — as Dickie then jumped up from the desk to reveal he’d stuck the word “Sorry” on his butt. Like so:

Dickie: “Yes, this is how you apologise to people.”

“She told me that I was talking out of my backside… this one right there,” he explained to the panel, swishing his butt gently in front of the camera.

“Better point it out just in case.”

The butt sticker went down a treat with the panel: “If I had an arse that good I’d talk out of it too,” offered co-host Karl Stefanovic.

“Dickie, you absolute madman!”

“We’re so sorry Dua,” Dickie finished. “We love having you here.”

We’d dearly love to show you footage of the segment — but for some reason, Today have already scrubbed it from the internet.
