R.E.M. Really Loves This Australia Band’s Cover Of Their Album ‘Out of Time’
“I never thought we'd have R.E.M. sending us fire and love heart emojis in the DMs.”
Legendary American act R.E.M. has heaped praise on the Australian band Quivers last week, after discovering the Tasmanian quartet’s cover of the album Out of Time.
R.E.M. posted a link to the Australian band’s work, featuring covers of the ‘Shiny Happy People’ and ‘Losing My Religion’ in a Facebook post on their official account.
Lead singer Sam Nicholson told Junkee he woke up to messages from friends, saying that “R.E.M. had been talking about our full cover of their album”.
“The first response was definitely not believing it, and feeling really surprised and relieved that they didn’t mind our covers,” Nicholson said. “I never thought we’d have R.E.M. sending us fire and love heart emojis in the DMs.”
Nicholson said that the praise came with “really weird and perfect timing”, as the band were due to announce their second pressing of the Out of Time covers to vinyl.
“We’ve definitely noticed a few more new names ordering all our albums, and hopefully a few will make it to shows on our postponed US tour (not-yet-announced). The response has been really positive.” Nicholson said.
Nicholson said that R.E.M had been influenced his sound as a musician from an early age, being recommended to Nicholson by his sister at age 10 while “Megadeth and Pantera were still blasting out of my brothers’ rooms”.
Quivers will be touring their latest album ‘Golden Doubt’ throughout May.
