Reese Witherspoon And Ashton Kutcher Give Us Nothing On The Red Carpet
By now we would’ve all come across the press shots of Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher stood next to each other like lifeless holograms for the new rom-com Your Place or Mine, and I can’t help but love their decidedly sexless appearance.
Of course, we’re used to actors cosplaying as a couple in the wake of a film’s premiere, and many social media users have pointed out that the two famous actors could have used Oscar Isaac’s memorable photo call with co-star Jessica Chastain for Scenes from a Marriage as inspiration.

In case you forgot, the two went viral for completely hamming it up on the red carpet in 2021, where Isaac engaged in some Addams Family style arm kissing and at one point, an armpit sniff. Isaac later offered up an insane explanation for the display, stating “that’s how Jessica and I talk to each other. We’re just like little flatworms.” What?
I love Oscar Isaac as much as the next gal, but actors pretending to be deeply into each other on the red carpet is starting to get weird and uncomfortable. Also, is it necessary? Red carpet nuzzling isn’t going to make me buy a ticket to a movie! And isn’t Scenes from a Marriage about a divorce? A horrible divorce?
All of this is to say that it’s about time we stop encouraging actors to create the pretense that they’re anything but colleagues. So I for one, welcome Reese Witherspoon and Ashton’s Kutcher decidedly sexless red carpet energy. All that faux-amorous energy is probably best saved for the movie itself.
