Rival gang drama, escaping the po-po and robbing some trains — it’s what in store for Red Dead Redemption 2, as revealed in a glorious four minutes and 24 seconds of gameplay footage released overnight.

We here at Junkee have been predicting incredible detail for the October 26 release, a conclusion mostly based on the very reliable barometer of the developers including weather-reactive horse testicles.  However, after viewing this trailer, I needed to do some maths.

I counted (yes, really) 50 horses. Some I merely caught a glimpse of, others gave me the opportunity for a good, long look without having to hit pause. Some may have been the same horse twice. That’s not the point.

Of those 50 horses, there were only three sets of visible balls. None — not one set — were reacting to the weather.

Is this a sign that perhaps the game isn’t as detailed as I thought it might be? That less than five minutes shown of a game that could run longer than it’s predecessors 35 or so hours should have given the people what they wanted and this should have been anticipated when the marketing strategy was in development?

No. That’s bizarre and ridiculous.

Obviously, Rockstar is taking a stand. The team is sending a message. Anyone reading between the lines here will see what’s happening: Red Dead Redemption 2 is delivering equal representation for all horses. Horse gender disparity has been a hot topic in games never, so to see this addressed — even subtly — is a real win.

Jokes that hurt a little aside, check out the new Red Eye system. It looks pretty sweet.
