As with so many of the creative and live industries in 2020, broadway and theatre are suffering due to the pandemic. But that hasn’t stopped many a theatre professional and theatre kid alike burning off steam on TikTok, creating concepts for a hypothetical Ratatoullie musical.
Like many good things in life, Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical began its life as a meme that could not be stopped. Before soon becoming a crowdsourced phenomenon. “It has been magical to watch the TikTok community create and embrace the #RatatouilleMusical,” said Lizzy Hale, senior manager of content at US TikTok.

Hale continues, “from @e_jaccs’ original ‘Ode to Remy’ to @shoeboxmusicals’ set designs, seeing the endless creativity of the platform and the wider community rallying around it has inspired and driven a new forum for theatre lovers to express themselves, participate, and enjoy the show.”
There have also been songs written for Collette, a song for Remy’s dad, and even a bitter ballad for Remy’s grandmother. The Ratatouille musical has been gaining steam on TikTok since early November.
And all their hard work has paid off! Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical– consisting of original songs, choreographies, and concepts created on TikTok– will be streaming January 2nd. It is not yet known exactly who will be involved, which songs have been chosen, or general production details. These details will be released closer to the concert’s premiere.
Tickets are being sold at TodayTix, starting at $5 (USD). The event will be able to purchase and view for 72 hours.
Anyone can cook, and it turns out with enough passion, and clout on TikTok anyone can make a Ratatoullie Musical happen too. I just have one question. Why didn’t they call it The Ratatouisical?
