Quentin Tarantino Has Responded To Uma Thurman’s Allegations
Earlier this week Uma Thurman dropped some explosive allegations, saying she almost died in a car crash during the filming of Kill Bill.
According to Thurman, she was driving in an unsafe car, down a dodgy road, and was only doing so because she felt like she couldn’t say no to director Quentin Tarantino.
Tarantino has been getting a lot of hate for the claims:
Weinstein and Tarantino, what a pair! A serial rapist and a near murderer. It’s no fucking joke what these abhorrent criminals did to Uma Thurman, before and after #KillBill. They put her life, her dignity, her sanity in danger. Burn in hell you sick fucks. pic.twitter.com/VpD2oT1ETZ

Tarantino also ignored Daryl Hannah’s complaints when she was harassed by Harvey Weinstein. They kicked her off the press tour.Nobody helped her. And now Tarantino is going to make a movie about Polanski. Why is someone financing this? This is why Weinstein wasn’t stopped. $$$$ https://t.co/WlSVFEoVN4

Tarantino’s Response
In an interview with Deadline, Tarantino responded to the allegations, saying the crash was one of the “biggest regrets of my life”.
He claimed the he knew next to nothing about the condition of the car and road, and that when he himself drove the car down the sand road that the Kill Bill scene was filmed on, he didn’t see a dangerous curve in the track. The director also said that he had no idea that the car’s gearbox and seat were dodgy.
But he took most issue with Thurman’s claim that he was “furious” with her for not wanting to do the scene:
“I’m sure when it was brought up to me, that I rolled my eyes and was irritated. But I’m sure I wasn’t in a rage and I wasn’t livid. I didn’t go barging into Uma’s trailer, screaming at her to get into the car. I can imagine maybe rolling my eyes and thinking, we spent all this money taking this stick shift Karmann Ghia and changing the transmission, just for this shot.”
Tarantino blamed Harvey Weinstein for the fact it took Thurman 15 years to get her hands on footage of the accident.
“She had been denied it, from Harvey Weinstein,” he said. “I wanted to deliver it to her, so she could look at it. So she could see it and help her with her memory of the incident.”
Delivering the footage 15 years after the fact may have come from a place of regret: Tarantino also said in the interview that after the crash, a trust was broken between Thurman and himself.
They haven’t worked on a film together since.
So Who Do We Believe Here?
In an interesting twist, Thurman posted footage of the crash on Instagram yesterday, and distanced herself from some of the earlier anger directed at Tarantino.
“The circumstances of this event were negligent to the point of criminality. I do not believe though with malicious intent,” Thurman wrote. “Quentin Tarantino was deeply regretful and remains remorseful about this sorry event, and gave me the footage years later so I could expose it and let it see the light of day, regardless of it most likely being an event for which justice will never be possible”.
“He also did so with full knowledge it could cause him personal harm, and I am proud of him for doing the right thing and for his courage”.
Thurman went on to blame Weinstein, as well as his lawyers and her agency, for the crash.
“They lied, destroyed evidence, and continue to lie about the permanent harm they caused and then chose to suppress.”
Questions still remain about Thurman’s other allegations — that Tarantino had personally choked her and spat in her face during the filming of other Kill Bill scenes.
But it seems like for now the key thing that’s confirmed is something that we’ve known for a while now: Harvey Weinstein is a complete scumbag.
