There’s nothing quite like the buzz of the last day of work or school for the year and apparently this giddy feeling isn’t just confined to normals. Yesterday was Queensland state parliament’s last day of sitting for 2015, and things got a little silly.

And by silly, I mean supremely nerdy.

On final sitting day for the year the Parliament of Queensland’s IT Dept has just unveiled a fully functioning #Dalek they built over the last 12 months

Nothing says Christmas like a replica of a robot alien from Doctor Who, right? This odd and impressive feat was achieved by “Al and Glenn from the IT Department” who Liberal MP Scott Emerson was careful to point out “made it in their own time as a hobby, completely separate to parliamentary business” lest the public think Queensland was secretly building their own private army of murderous Daleks.

Political editor of the Brisbane Times Amy Remeikis had the great pleasure of following the Parliamentary Dalek around for the day and captured some pretty special moments on Twitter.

Politicians are weird.
