Pussy Riot Slam Trump, Drop A Music Video For Their Awesome New Single ‘Straight Outta Vagina’

Pussy Riot’s new English-language single is an unapologetic ode to vaginas, one that band-member Nadya Tolokonnikova says could be considered “an answer to Trump.”

The Russian feminist punk protest band released the music video to ‘Straight Outta Vagina’ on Tuesday. The provocative clip features Tolokonnikova in white priest’s robes, men in high heels, and women dancing at urinals. Naturally, there are a lot of balaclavas, and also someone brought a giant rubber duck.

Recorded in February in collaboration with American guitarist Dave Sitek, the song includes the lyrics “I rip shit like Sinead O’Connor, I wear my vag as a badge of honour” and “if your vagina lands in prison, then the world is gonna listen.” The latter line is presumably in reference to the 16 month jail term serve served by Tolokonnikova and fellow Pussy Riot member Masha Alyokhina following an unauthorised anti-Putin performance in Moscow’s Christ the Saviour Cathedral in 2012.

“I believe the idea of powerful female sexuality is much bigger than any populist megalomaniac man,” Tolokonnikova told The Guardian.  “Vagina is bigger than Trump.”

“Politicians are praising ‘strong leadership’. Trump openly supports the authoritarian methods of Vladimir Putin. And it’s scary. It’s not the world in which I want to live,” she said. In the same interview, Tolokonnikova compared the spread of “patriarchal and misogynist ideas” to a sexually transmitted disease.

The group also released a video for their Russian language song ‘Organs’, featuring Tolokonnikova naked in a bathtub full of blood. Lyrics include “shitfaced parliament bans condoms” and “my strap-ons are being replaced with uniforms and icons.”
