This Meme Takes The Piss Out Of Cis People Who Find Gender Pronouns Confusing

Every not-so-secret homophobe’s favourite excuse for misgendering someone is claiming that pronouns are just “too confusing” to remember.

Despite it actually being really simple — where all you have to do is call someone the pronouns they tell you they want to be called — it’s apparently a lil’ too difficult for some to get. Take Elon Musk, for example.

Throughout 2020, the Telsa and SpaceX billionaire CEO has mocked people who list their pronouns in their social media bios. On July 25, the 49-year-old simply tweeted “Pronouns suck” before his girlfriend Grimes basically told him to shut up and call her.

But in December, Musk started the unnecessary discussion again by sharing a shit and, well, just unfunny meme about people putting ‘he/him’ in their bios. Later, the edgelord and certified Cool Dude™️ clarified that while he “absolutely support [sic] trans… all these pronouns are an esthetic nightmare“.

Doing a bit of damage control, Musk then had a “well, I can’t be racist because I have Black friends” moment by highlighting that he simply couldn’t be transphobic because… Tesla had “scored 100/100 for the fourth year in a row in LGBTQ equality“.

Now, beyond that Human Right’s Campaign score being based on the company policies regarding discrimination and not the CEO’s personal beliefs, it really just makes little sense that Elon Musk, a man who literally named his child X Æ A-Xii, would care about the aesthetics of pronouns.

Similarly, it’s strange that cis people have no problem learning a name like X Æ A-Xii but still shout about using pronouns like they/them being far too difficult to understand — and this is exactly what the “Pronouns Are Confusing” meme is.

The internet is now banding together to dunk on people who find gender pronouns too confusing, yet somehow can easily understand way more complicated things, like the stock market or those extremely busy maps in games like World of Warcraft and Fortnite.

Really it’s absurd, and a cop-out, for cis people to claim that they just can’t seem to wrap their heads around using the pronouns that someone literally writes out out for them. So, please enjoy these memes highlighting the things that are much more complex than what someone asks to be called:
