The eternal quest to catch them all will soon no longer be limited by your waking hours. The Pokémon Company have announced a new mobile app that will let you be the very best while still getting your depression naps in.

Announced in a Tokyo press conference today, the new Pokémon app is called Pokémon Sleepand will launch in 2020.

Though details are scarce, The Pokémon Company did reveal that Pokémon Sleep will work in conjunction with their newly announced Pokémon GO Plus+ device.

Similar to the Pokémon GO Plus peripheral for Pokémon GO, the Pokémon GO Plus+ will connect to players’ phones via Bluetooth. Using an inbuilt accelerometer, the Pokémon GO Plus+ will track players’ sleep, then transmit that information to Pokémon Sleep.

The Pokémon GO Plus+ will also include the features of a Pokémon GO Plus, so it will alert you to PokéStops and wild Pokémon in Pokémon GO when you’re awake.

To promote Pokémon Sleep, a special sleeping Snorlax is now available in Pokémon GO until June 4 at 6:00AM AEST. Snorlax will wake up after you’ve caught them, and will know the exclusive move Yawn.

Even if your Pokémon proclivities don’t lean toward GO, it may be worth hopping on to grab yourself a sleepy boy. The Pokémon Company also announced a new Pokémon cloud service app coming in 2020 which will allow players to transfer their Pokémon between several different games.

Called Pokémon HOME, compatible games include Pokémon GO; Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! and Pikachu!; and Pokémon Sword and Shield. Players will also be able to use Pokémon HOME to trade their Pokemon with people anywhere in the world, so you might finally be able to get those Pokémon GO region exclusives.

Still not done, the Pokémon Company further announced a new mobile game called Pokémon Masters, which will launch later this year. Details are equally scarce currently, however, we do know that it will feature well-known trainers from the games.

Pokémon Sleep is a novel idea, but Pokémon’s venture into the kinda sorta health gadget sphere isn’t new. Released in 1998, the Pocket Pikachu device acted as a pedometer, granting players “watts” which could be used to buy Pikachu gifts. Then in 2016, Pokémon GO encouraged players to walk in order to hatch new Pokémon from eggs.

However, sleep tracking is a definite first for a franchise that began with one innocent Game Boy game.
