Poh From ‘MasterChef’ Has Finally Revealed Why She Stared At Her Oven So Damn Much
Poh and her oven truly was 'MasterChef's greatest love story.
During this season of MasterChef, we’ve learned a few things are guaranteed each episode: Someone will whip out a hibachi grill, Reynold will try to use liquid nitrogen wherever he can, and Poh will just crouch and stare at her oven mid-cook.
Honestly, Poh and her kitchen appliances has been MasterChef’s greatest love story and, beyond her general chaotic nature, has become one of the season’s longest-running jokes for people watching at home.

But Poh has finally put MasterChef fans out of our misery, and has explained why the hell she stared at her oven so damn often.
Talking to The Project post-elimination, Poh chatted about her affinity for staring at ovens, and iconically, the blast chiller that one time. With Waleed Aly noting off all the chaotic nicknames Poh earned herself during Back To Win — including Poh-nado, Poh-llercoaster and Poh-nami — the hosts questioned whether there was any method to the chef’s madness.
“There is a method to the madness. I know I look completely unhinged a lot of the time,” Poh laughed. “I’m always thinking about how I can get a cultural story across, about technique I can show off. There is actually quite a lot of strategy despite what you see.”
Moving onto the hot topic of oven-staring, Poh revealed that she always looking into her ovens because, surprise, she’s just trying to monitor how her food is cooking away.
“Everyone says ‘Are you trying to make it cook faster?’ It’s not,” she explained. “I’m watching to see if I need to crank it up, and when I see it’s browning too much, I lower the temperature again.”
“I’m actually watching to see how I can keep adjusting because, of course, the timeframes are always a little unrealistic,” Poh continued. “So I’m actually doing it for a reason.”
So there you have it. I personally prefer the storyline that Poh is simply in love with warm kitchen appliances, but I guess her explanation will do.
