A Play-Doh Movie Is Coming And We’re Afraid This Isn’t A Joke

"How about play-don't?"

A Play-Doh movie is the works, people. It’s in the works. And there’s nothing we can do about now.

At times like this, I’m reminded of the words of Bo Burnham: “It’s the end of culture. Culture’s over, everybody. We lost.” At the time he was referring to celebrity-lip syncing battles of the 2010s, but I’m willing to bet that things have gotten much, much worse since then.

Anyway, the colourful blobs of dough that probably featured heavily through your childhood, will be coming to a cinema near you in the form of an animated feature. Which means that we probably can’t eat it. In which case, what’s the point?

Deadline reported that a couple of heavy-hitters are attached to the project: Emily V. Gordon, nominated for an Oscar for The Big Sick, will attempt to write the film (all the best, Emily) and Jon M. Chu, famous for directing Crazy Rich Asians and In The Heights, has been slated for its production with “an eye to direct” — whatever that means.

“The team looks forward to bringing the audience a mouldable, pliable, iconically-scented story about the importance of imagination,” Chu and Gordon said in a statement. Folks, blink twice if you need help. BLINK. TWICE.

Reactions from Twitter users have been varied. One Twitter user, Oliver Hill, commented: “how about play-don’t?” True.

Other people seem genuinely livid, like this guy, who is fed up with Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu seemingly working on everything but a sequel to the hit 2018 movie. “This is where I start to get pissed off,” he tweeted this morning.

I don’t know, guys. I guess this is the world we live in now. It’s just three-hour long superhero movies, dumb reboots and Barnaby Joyce. Barnaby Joyce! Things are ending, so you’d best get your kicks where you can.

Happy Friday!
