Everyone has an opinion on plastic bags this week, but how many of us can say we’ve expressed those opinions in a government-funded dance video filmed in a supermarket after hours?

As part of its commitment to transition to net zero emissions by 2050, the ACT government runs a Community Zero Emissions Grants Program that’s intended to provide funding to community groups and individuals working on projects that support that goal.

Some of the recipients of the first round of grants, announced in November 2017, includ the Canberra Environment Centre, which received $24,000 to purchase a solar powered composter for the local community, and Woden Community Service, which received $23,000 to train young people to fix and build bicycles to donate to people in need.

And then there was Australian Dance Party, which received $21,550 to “change perceptions and behaviours through a dance, short film and community awareness campaign”.

Friends, today the first instalment in that campaign has arrived, and there are…no words. Complete with incredibly innovative rapping (“bananas have a peel, they don’t need a package/and every little bag does a little damage”), elaborate costumes constructed entirely of plastic bags, and some actually pretty hectic dance moves, Australian Dance Party is here to have the final word on the plastic bag ban.

Witness this art below. It’ll be hard to forget your reusable bags ever again.
