In some normal London news, over the weekend some bloke spotted a very big snake — a boa constrictor, to be precise — eating a pigeon.

Yes, seriously: on a random London footpath, an enormous snake was chowing down on a dead pigeon. A few bystanders dutifully uploaded the footage, and behold, it’s already a meme.

Pigeon Snake™ has already been compared to Pizza Rat, NYC’s dashing (and hungry) rodent mascot, who was spotted dragging a slice of pizza twice its size down a flight of stairs back in 2015. At the time, Pizza Rat struck a chord with New Yorkers, who finally felt represented by a dirty rat aspiring to greater things, and it’s been suggested that Pigeon Snake could similarly become emblematic of Londoners.

I mean, nothing says London like an enormous mysterious boa constrictor devouring a pigeon while random barefoot civilians look on, right?

People have also attempted to milkshake duck Pigeon Snake, which is a truly cooked sentence I never thought I’d have to write. There are seriously people out there demanding answers as to why no one rescued the pigeon, and trying to rouse Londoners to rush to the obviously dead bird’s defence.

Fortunately for said pigeon, there are reports that it was already dead when the snake found it. There’s also a happy ending for the snake — the RSPCA were able to rescue it and take it to a nearby wildlife centre for assessment. They’re still not really sure where it came from, but suspect it’s either an escaped or an abandoned pet.

Anyway, let this be your reminder to stay safe out there folks. You never know where you’ll just happened to stumble across a boa constrictor eating a pigeon. Oh, and do your research before buying an exotic pet — don’t just dump it in the street when you get overwhelmed.
