Please Enjoy This Footage Of Baby Pete Doherty Waiting In Line For An Oasis Record
Better yet, he later revealed he hadn't even listened to Oasis at the time.
Pete Doherty is a titan of British pop, one of the uber-talented forces behind The Libertines. But before he was a major fixture in the British music media — and tabloids — he was a little boy, waiting in line for an Oasis record.
Though the footage of Doherty gushing about his favorite band has been circling around the internet for at least 13 years, it’s recently gone viral once again on Twitter. And for good reason — Doherty is impossibly cute in the clip, pouting for the cameras and making quips so precise that the interviewer asks him if he’s ever considered getting on the television.
“This guy is brilliant!” the interviewer exclaims while Doherty stands there, looking bashful.
Better yet, after the clip went viral the first time, way back in the bygone era of 2019, Doherty revealed that he wasn’t even really queuing up for an Oasis record.
“I wanna clear this one up. I was working in the Trocadero centre demonstrating wind-up frogs and I knew that there was something going on ’cause I saw TV cameras and photographers and there was a giant cardboard cut-out of Noel and Liam, so I went down there,” Doherty explained on a podcast.
First of all — “demonstrating wind-up frogs” is the kind of musical tidbit that I demand to never, ever know the context for. Second of all, who wouldn’t have their eyes caught by a pair of Gallagher brothers cut-outs?
“I wasn’t queuing for an Oasis album,” Doherty went on to say. “My sister was a big Oasis fan, and I later tuned into them and decided they were brilliant, but at the time I was far more interested in getting photographed.”
Incredible.
