Sometimes the internet — when it unites for a heartfelt cause– can be a very nice place to be. Did any of us expect that this Christmas, this would manifest as a global quest to save Brendan Fraser’s career? Not really, but I am 100 percent on board.

Today reddit is consumed with the ‘Save Brendan’ campaign, which includes a petition to Netflix, HBO, Starz and Showtime to give the Canadian actor a job. The petition came about due to concern for Fraser’s finances after his divorce and anger that he doesn’t appear in Tom Cruises’ new The Mummy reboot.

“We are now calling on all networks to please consider Brendan for any upcoming shows/movies that are planned,” the petition reads. “Brendan is a much loved actor worldwide, people are shocked that he wasn’t at least offered a smaller role in the new Mummy movie.”

“Brendan has been in multiple interviews recently and has appeared to be very down and out, and us loyal fans feel like we are obliged to help him in any way possible. Please help us get Brendan back on his feet again, we miss him.”

So far the petition has attracted almost 24,000 signatures. Fans have also started countless threads praising Fraser’s star power, like ‘Why Tom Cruise Can’t Match Brendan Fraser In Mummy Greatness’ and ‘#RolesThatShouldHaveBeenPlayedByBrendan’ (including Fraser playing The Joker instead of Jared Leto — I’d actually like to see that!) and are sharing their favourite Fraser moments.

Unsurprisingly, his stint in Scrubs is coming up a lot.

Good luck, Brendan Fraser!
