This Pedro Pascal AMA From 9 Years Ago Has A Pathetic Hold On Me

Those goddamn Pedro Pascal fancams got me good.

That goddamn cowboy Pedro Pascal edit is ruining my life. I’m done fighting it, so I’m officially in my Pedro Pascal era.

HBO’s The Last of Us has gifted us a lifetime of discourse around video game adaptations, pinkwashing, and the defiant return of weekly television. But best of all, it’s given us more Pedro Pascal. Donning his crown as the internet’s “cool slutty daddy”, his role as Joel is the perfect fit. He’s also pretty great at starring in TikTok fancams and Saturday Night Live skits about starring in TikTok fancams.

Because of my rapidly growing parasocial attachment to this man, largely thanks to these fancams, I came across this Reddit Ask Me Anything from nine years ago and you best believe I read every single comment. I can feel myself sinking deeper into the depths of Pedro Pascal fandom: to the point where this relatively standard Q&A is somehow the best interview of all time.

And I think it’s because this 2014 relic puts who he is now into context. Nine years ago, he was just getting started as an exciting side character on HBO’s Game of Thrones. Now, he’s the lead in not one, but two highly acclaimed series: The Last of Us and The Mandalorian

The way these benign answers are still exciting to me gives me reason to think I’m truly losing my mind here. Allow me to drag us both down this path of supreme adorableness…

“Hello. My name is Pedro Pascal.”

I am actor Pedro Pascal. I play Oberyn in Game of Thrones, Ask me anything. from IAmA

Here me out: his intro is so funny. Most actors’ AMAs are a touch more friendly and familiar, and kind of expect you to know who this person is already. Matt Damon’s one starts with a solid “Hey Reddit, Matt Damon here.” Patrick Stewart does the same thing in a different font with “Good morning, reddit! This is Patrick Stewart here to answer your questions.” Or there’s the short and sweet “It’s me, Macaulay Culkin.”

But no, not Pedro. After his very formal introduction, he explains where we might know him from: “I play Oberyn Martell, the red viper on Game of Thrones.” Then he explains that he was born in Santiago, Chile, just like he starts his SNL promo clip

He Was The Perfect Oberyn Martell

Oberyn Martell was undeniably one of the best characters on Game of Thrones and it’s nice to see that he knew how much of an, ahem, effect he had on people.

He also talked about how he came up with the perfect accent for the Dornish prince and how it was inspired by his father. It’s evident how much love he has for his heritage and culture, and we love to see it.

Someone asked what his favourite sci-fi film is and look how excited he is to answer this question! Hot and dorky, a very potent combo.

He Would Marry A Stranger On The Internet

There is hope.
