Fresh updates about the third Paddington movie were announced in the wee hours of the morning, and we couldn’t be more chuffed.

Yup, the third movie finally has a title — Paddington in Peru — and we can only assume this is a response to our disgust that the refugee bear was used to promote monarchist propaganda just last week.

A new director has also joined the franchise — Dougal Wilson has come on board in place of Paul King, who we can safely say did a pretty good job of Paddington and Paddington 2. (He’s apparently too busy with and is now busy with the Timothée Chalamet movie Wonka to partake.

As we know, the original 2014 film Paddington was released to pretty much universal acclaim; telling the story of a young bear, voiced by Ben Whishaw, who makes the journey to London in search of a home, where he is taken in by the Brown family: Henry Brown (Hugh Bonneville) and Mary Brown (Sally Hawkins); and their two kids Judy (Madeleine Harris) and Jonathan (Samuel Joslin).

In a rare cinematic occurrence, Paddington 2 was even better than its predecessor; taking on board a villainous Hugh Grant who does the unthinkable in trying to frame Paddington for a crime, seeing the bear enter the criminal justice system and effect some much-needed prison reform.

Former director Paul King has responded to the news in a statement.

“After ten years of working on the Paddington movies, I feel absurdly protective of the little bear, and I’m delighted that Dougal will be there to hold his paw as he embarks on his third big-screen adventure,” he said.

“Dougal’s work is never less than astounding: funny, beautiful, heartfelt, imaginative, and totally original. Aunt Lucy once asked us to ‘Please Look After This Bear.’ I know Dougal will do so admirably.”

Filming for Paddington in Peru will take place in London and Peru in 2023.
