Well, Osher Günsberg has taken a break from facilitating heterosexual drama to help curate a list of audiobooks that are just perfect for dogs. Yes, you read that right: audiobooks for dogs.

Osher’s picks launched today as part of Audible for Dogs, a new project from audiobook provider Audible. The company has decided to branch out into literature for animals after an independent study by Hartpury College in the UK suggested that listening to audiobooks can help calm down kennelled dogs. Or, you know, that pup you’ve left at home all by itself today.

So, what kinds of literature are dogs into these days? The Hartpury study suggested that audiobooks with a nice, calming narrator are good — plus, they need to be long enough to keep your dog entertained for the entire workday. Audible teamed up with Osher (noted dog owner) and Dr Susan Hazel (animal behaviourist and actual expert) to put together a list of audiobooks that fit that criteria, and you can now find them all ready to go here.

It’s actually a pretty good literary education for your dog, too — there are plenty of classics on the list, like Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, Charles Dickens’ David Copperfield, and also Lord of the Rings. In fact, there’s a good chance your dog will be better-read than you pretty soon.

Don’t take my word for it, though — here’s Osher’s dog Frankie speaking for himself about it. Oh yeah, did we mention dogs can speak now too?
