Obama White House Watched Julia Gillard’s Misogyny Speech Whenever They Were Pissed With Abbott
Relatable.
We Australians spent literal years getting pissed off with Thatcherite clown Tony Abbott, only finding relief when he was booted from the Prime Ministership by Malcolm Turnbull, and then booted from his seat by his electorate. So it’s kind of empowering to know that Americans were as irritated by the man as we were.
And not just any Americans, either. As it turns out, the Obama White House would get as peeved with the one-time Prime Minister of our country as the rest of us.
Yep, as reported by The Guardian, and revealed on the podcast A Rational Fear, the Obama White House team would watch Abbott get savaged by Julia Gillard’s ‘misogyny’ speech whenever ole Tone pissed them off.
Those beans were spilled by Ben Rhodes, a high-ranking former member of Obama’s team, who went on to call Abbott “tone deaf” and “really annoy[ing].”
“That speech got watched a lot in the Obama White House, let me just put it that way,” Rhodes told A Rational Fear — though, sadly he didn’t reveal whether Obama himself was one of those watching the clip for a bit of a pick-me-up.
Stories that the one-time US President and his team disliked Tony Abbott have circulated for years. Almost half a decade ago, Rhodes told The Australian that Obama never warmed to Abbott, and that the two had “a very difficult relationship.”
Tell us about it. We had a very difficult relationship with that man and his conservative cronies too.
